Sponge sheetings, also known as expanded rubbers or sponge rubbers, are cellular products providing a more compressible material than traditional rubbers in sealing applications. They are manufactured either closed or open cell, with each type providing different benefits depending on the application.
Closed cell sponge and foam products do not have connecting cavities or pores. As such, closed cell grades do not typically allow ingress of external contaminants such as moisture, dust, air or grit. This makes them ideal for sealing applications where the compressibility of a sponge or foam is important, but where water exclusion and sound/gas retention is key.
Open cell sponge and foam grades differ in that the pores or cavities of the material connect. This enables open cell grades to be more compressible than closed cell counterparts, and normally means that the sponge will recover much better once the pressure is removed. However, the connecting cavities do allow the ingress of contaminants, notably dust, water and air.
All sponge and foam materials below are available in an extensive range of roll/sheet sizes and thicknesses. As a leading converter of sponge products, our manufacturing facilities allow us to adapt sponge sheet grades into bespoke items such as coils, strips, gaskets and shapes. Our standard stocked closed cell sponge. EPDM provides good resistance to ozone, ageing and ultraviolet light. It can be supplied in rolls or coils with a self-adhesive backing if required. Temperature range of -30°C up to +80°C.
PVC nitrile is a Class O rated, flame retardant closed cell sponge. It displays excellent resistance to oils and fuels, while the smooth outer skin protects against absorption. Temperature range of -40°C up to +105°C.
A natural rubber open cell sponge with a non-slip patterned skin. It is commonly used for its excellent compression and recovery and is both resilient and durable. Temperature range of -40°C up to +80°C.
Orange open cell sponge provides good resistance to ozone and heat but is not resistant to most oils, acids and alkalis. It is popular for use in labelling applications. Temperature range of up to +80°C.
As with solid silicone, silicone sponge has both excellent heat resistance and non-stick properties. It is resistant to UV light and can be supplied self-adhesive backed as required. Temperature range of -60° up to +200°C.
Silicone Sponge – FDA Approved
A closed cell, smooth skinned silicone sponge with both FDA and EC food contact approvals. Similar properties to silicone sponge, but can be used in the food, drink and pharma sectors. Temperature range of -60° up to +200°C.
HT800 silicone sponge has all the same properties as our standard silicone sponge but is also flame retardant, FDA approved, and has better compression recovery. Temperature range of -55°C up to +200°C.
PU Sponge (Dynathane™)
Polyurethane sponge is often referred to by the popular brand ‘Dynathane™’. PU sponge is microcellular, is very hard wearing and has good resistance to abrasion and tearing. Temperature range of -40°C up to +80°C.
A white/off-white variation of our standard EPDM sponge. The properties are similar, such as ozone and UV resistance. For use when the application requires a different aesthetic. Temperature range of -30°C up to +90°C.
A skinned, closed cell sponge with a wide range of properties including resistances to hydrocarbons, oils, fuels, lubricants, acids, weathering, ozone and hot water. Temperature range of -25°C up to +204°C.
SCE42-2C2 closed cell sponge is formulated to provide resistance to oil, chemical and hydrocarbon solvents. Commonly used for sealing applications in the automotive sector. Temperature range of -40°C up to +75°C.
Polyethylene Foam (Zote® Foam)
A range of closed cell, cross linked, polyethylene foams. Available in a wide range of colours and densities, these foams are frequently used in the packaging industry. Temperature range of -80°C up to +100°C.
PVC foam is a medium density, open cell grade. Its main benefits are excellent UV resistance, good dimensional stability and good recovery. Supplied self-adhesive backed as standard. Temperature range of -30°C up to +80°C.
Manufactured from blown PVC with a smooth laminate skin on one side. It is easy to clean, UV and moisture resistant, has good ageing properties and is self-extinguishing. Temperature range of -25°C up to +70°C.
Typically supplied in blocks or slabs to the density and colour required. We can convert upholstery foam into PVC coated polyester crash mats, pads, gym foam blocks, pipeline swabs and pit foam for action sports.
Manufactured from polyester, our reticulated filter foams are supplied in various PPI (pores per inch) grades. It does not swell in the majority of liquids, is flame retardant, and performs well under elevated temperatures.
