Description
Nylon 6 sheet is a widely used engineering plastic with high tensile strength, stiffness, and mechanical properties. It has moderate chemical resistance, is electrically insulating, and performs well when exposed to heat for extended periods. Because of its general versatility and ease of machining, Nylon 6 is used in a wide range of engineering applications.
We have been supplying nylon 6 sheet for over the years at Petron Thermoplast and offer a wide range of grades to meet specific industrial requirements. We offer a variety of nylon 6 grades, including standard engineering grades for general purpose machining, cast oil-filled grades with a lower coefficient of friction and improved wear resistance, and cast moly filled grades with higher load-bearing properties.
Cast Nylon 6 sheet is easier to machine than extruded grades and generally offers improved strength, a higher operating temperature, and lower moisture absorption. Petron Thermoplast also offers extruded alternatives, commonly used when tighter tolerances or a thinner sheet thickness are required.
We also offer extruded metal detectable nylon 6, primarily used in food and pharmaceutical processing operations, and flame retardant grades under UL94 V-0 commonly machined into components for use in aviation and rail industries cable holders clamps, and channels.
Many grades of nylon 6 sheet can be purchased online. In addition, we offer cast nylon 6 rod, cast nylon 6 tube, and bespoke cast nylon shapes.
Available Grades of Cast Nylon 6
Nylon 6 Sheet – Cast Natural
Cast natural nylon 6 sheet is a popular engineering plastic that is strong, tough and provides good resistance to oils and chemicals. Commonly machined into impact plates, wear guides, jigs and components. Temperature range -40°C up to +100°C.
Nylon 6 Sheet – Cast Black
Sharing the same characteristics as cast natural nylon 6. Cast black nylon 6 is a good, general purpose engineering plastic that provides high strength. It is manufactured into damping plates and bearings. Temperature range -40°C up to +100°C.
Nylon 6 Sheet – Cast Blue
Commonly used in the food processing industry due to the materials highly visible colour. Cast blue nylon 6 is a strong engineering plastic that is manufactured into components for use as conveying equipment. Temperature range -40°C up to +100°C.
Nylon 6 Sheet – Cast Oil Filled
An internally lubricating grade of nylon 6 that provides reduced coefficient of friction and improved resistance to wear in comparison to standard grades. Cast oil filled nylon 6 is often machined into components for use on highly loaded, un-lubricating and slow moving parts. Temperature range -40°C up to +110°C.
Nylon 6 Sheet – Cast MoS2 Filled
Cast MoS2 offers improved resistance to wear and a higher load bearing capacity in comparison to standard grades of nylon 6. Cast MoS2 has a higher operating temperature and is available in larger thickness options than extruded MoS2. Temperature range -40°C up to +105°C.
Available Grades of Extruded Nylon 6
Nylon 6 Sheet – Extruded
Manufactured to tighter tolerances and available in thinner sheet thicknesses than the cast nylon 6 alternative. Extruded nylon 6 sheet is available in black and natural and is commonly used as impact plates, castors, bearings and cam discs. Temperature range -40°C up to +85°C (+160°C short term).
Nylon 6 Sheet – MoS2 Filled
Offering increased load bearing properties and resistance to wear. Extruded MoS2 filled nylon 6 is a self-lubricating and electrically insulating engineering plastic. It is available in thinner thickness options than the cast MoS2 option. Temperature range -40°C up to +85°C.
Nylon 6 Sheet – Metal & X-Ray Detectable
Metal detectable extruded nylon 6 offers high strength and good resistance to abrasion. It is FDA approved, offers low moisture absorption and contains an additive that makes it detectable to metal detectable scanning equipment. Temperature range -25°C up to +85°C (+165°C short term).
Nylon 6 Sheet – Flame Retardant
Retaining the mechanical properties of standard grades of nylon 6, flame retardant extruded nylon 6 complies with fire testing of materials and components for trains DIN EN 45545-2:2013 and has a UL94 V-0 flammability rating. Temperature range -40°C up to +85°C (+160°C short term).
