Description
PET rod (polyethylene terephthalate) is a highly dimensionally stable engineering plastic with outstanding chemical resistance and creep behaviour. It has a high mechanical strength, a low moisture absorption rate, and is an excellent electrical insulator. PET is also scratch-resistant, machinable, and easy to polish.
Using in-house CNC gear, Petron Thermoplast has the capacity to precision manufacture PET rod into a variety of finished goods. Deflection rollers, control discs, gears, bearings, and parts for electrical insulation applications are all common components. Please see our plastic machining section for additional information on our engineering capabilities.
PET rod is available in a variety of diameters online from Direct by following the link above. We may provide PET (Ertalyte®) rod if a branded alternative is desired.
Applications
- Components for frames, insulators, control discs, and bearings are commonly made into deflection rollers for use in the filament sector. Mostly utilised in food and pharmaceutical manufacturing, as well as electrical, mechanical, and maritime engineering.
Key Features
- Temperatures range from -20°C to +115°C (+180°C in the short term).
- Dimensional stability is extremely high.
- Moisture absorption is very low.
- Outstanding creepiness.
- Mechanical strength, hardness, and toughness are all exceptional.
- Electric insulation qualities are good.
- Chemical resistance is excellent.
- Hydrolysis is a problem for PET.
- The natural PET sheet has been authorised for use in the food industry.
Standards
- Natural PET rod conforms to FDA Regulations title 21, part 177, paragraph 1630, sections a, f and g concerning plastics intended for use in contact with foodstuffs.
